'Alongside my shadow speaks'
andrew mitchell,
The light casts our shadows and that if only right. I feel that your poem is a word to ponder our impermanence. A shadow needs the right condition to come to be. We do too. There are many times we may feel as inadequate as a shadow. Well this poem is a wake up call to be aware of how we must appreciate any opportunity to leave any mark, any shadow in this world. Are light or are we simply a shadow? Sometimes just being a shadow and witness to other's light is enough. This review carries some thoughts which I have penned as well. Loved it.
Blessings

i think i would be interested in reading what my shadow would write if it wrote poetry...would it be similar to my reflections...or would it have its own reflections?
there must be a moment coming where that may happen.

The first thing after the title that came to mind was a verse from the song Daniel and the Sacred Harp by the Band
Then Daniel took the harp and went high on the hill
And he blew across the meadow like a whippoorwhill
He played out his heart just the time to pass
But as he looked to the ground, he noticed no shadow did he cast
not sure why Andrew, but its not a bad place to work from ... shadows are always watching and yet seldom share our feelings ... a lonely existence I think.

Yes a lonely path is a shadow's path. Thanks Ted for your words.
Not sure if a literal shadow is being discussed here or whether the poet is referring to that dark side of our consciousness which we all have. The wording indicates possibly a symbol of the past, of the person we once were, now just a memory. Interesting work here.
My shadow is always there, except when I
hide in a feather bed. Only then can I discover
a private world where dreams have no consequences.
However, when morning arrives, I enjoy the company of
my shadow... who knows where I am going aimlessly.
