The eye in the sky.

The eye in the sky.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

On a hot desert highway
the rust of dust covers
the grounds soaked by
a shimmering mirage.
The red sun reflects
the kangaroo crossing,
a bearded lizard smiles
on shifting sands.
Overhead warmth soars
through the wings of prey
while green thorns below
wait for rain.
Car steam bellows
from a radiator rising,
hot legs tan bend over
a car bonnet opened,
the engine running.
All the while
the blue sky
above looks on,
perspiration on its brow
at a young woman -
the eye catcher.
