Is it ever really what it seems?

Is it ever really what it seems?

A Poem by andrew mitchell

When he realised
his mind wasn’t his own
shoved to the floor
his thoughts were caged.
Looking through the bars
he saw spirituality flying high
on the mountain peaks free
across the ranges
where souls roamed.
All the while religion
enslaved the minds
within closed boundaries
limiting the knowledge
they should need
to break free
from the shackles of religion
to embrace spirituality.
Did those who lived
within the book
really ever lived happy
compared to those
who lived outside
free from limitations?

I love this poem, a problem I've had all my life, my family being religious & me being spiritual, haven't seen a writer make those distinctions using those words (religious vs spiritual) & it's a perfect comparison. Being set free vs being put in a narrow cage. I have a ton of friends on FB who "like" all my positivity memes but they will never "like" my writing becuz I'm such a bad girl! how can we embrace religion, when organized religion has us in some kind of solitary...
only seeing one tenant...the spiritual comes from inside of us....that is where we are free...no bars, no restraints...just God.

Thank you J, yes I agree organised religion is really for profits to those who preach that's all.
dear Andrew... spirituality is my religion...
also The Holy Spirit is the focus of my religion.
It is of my own choosing... it is given free at birth.
Every baby is born with a portion of the
Holy Spirit, and when we pass, our Spirit still
exists. I believe this because I feel it within
my mind and soul... Amen. Your poetry is within
the parameters of reality. truly, Pat
