The final frontier of aches and pains.

The final frontier of aches and pains.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

As memories
flake and wither
so many moments
left behind ...
growth shows wisdom
and old age
as lines of life
on a face weathered,
and the blessing that
we are allowed
to forget.

I love your title, since I live with chronic all-over pain & it can be a brutal frontier, trying not to allow pain to become the only thing you think or talk about. (Many of my older friends can only talk about ailments & prescriptions! Kill me if I start that s**t!) What really caused me pause when reading your poem: the last 3 lines. What blessing? I finally decided that it's a blessing to forget many things that would otherwise cause us distress or regret. But also, pain can define our present moments so completely, it's hard to remember a time when it wasn't this way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
