To the moon my Darling.

To the moon my Darling.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Tonight I'm yours
but my thoughts are soiled.
I would love you
to the moon and back
but the stairway to heaven
has been severed into two
beyond repair
leaving only splinters -
a gap too far to jump.
I bid you adieu.

This could be read as a number of things & I love the embedded mystery. Is the narrator addressing someone who's jilted him/her or bemoaning social distancing? Or maybe an array of impossibilities . . . sometimes certain people don't jive with one's wavelength & it becomes an insurmountable gap. This is the essence of thought-provoking scribbles! It's over. Something has wrenched these two apart for that stairway to heaven to sever. Sad poem.

Thank you Pat.:)
sometimes we are unable to go to the moon together---even as it beckons, if love is severed, if trust is severed...]
only one rides in that ship...very lonely poem.
