On time's meter.

On time's meter.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Life is all
rather arbitrary -
it's a man thing
relatively speaking.
Every time an old person
dies its like a library
burning down.
When the words
that flow have stopped
the ford of verse is frozen
time's meter has expired.

Just this morning, I was pondering the ages of our leading politicians in the USA. We have an 80-yo running congress, our senate will go from a 78-yo leader to a youthful 70-yo, meanwhile our prez goes from a 74-yo to a 78-yo. Amazingly, our new VP is only 56. As much as I don't want to be guilty of age discrimination, I believe our politics needs a youthful infusion! My favorite line in your poem is about burning down a library -- so true! The analogy of someone dying being like a library burning down is so powerful! It impacted me when I read it. Love it.

Hello Andrew. Every time any life expires, it feels like the closure of a book. A slim volume fora young person, a set for an older one. I like your thinking here. Happy New Year my friend. Hoping 2021 turns out better for all.
