A thoughtless bunch.

A thoughtless bunch.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

There was this
thought I knew
that became puffed
hearing the word
exercise
which was no better
than the thought
I knew that was restless
and couldn’t keep still
- bored apparently.
Then there was
a cellophane thought
I heard it was noisy as hell
with its crackly presence.
Finally I knew a thought
that was forgotten
in the moment
and gone tomorrow.
Yes! They’re all
a thoughtless bunch
of thoughts of
no promise or potential
just thoughts of consequence.

Your poem demonstrates the struggle to meditate. The Buddhist texts I've read say we should try not to think, but if a thought should wander by, just dismiss it as "thought" . . . don't analyze or get tangled up in it . . . just identify as "thought" & move on to more thought-free meditation. I would say that your narrator is getting very tangled up in his thoughts, as most people do! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
