A Poem by andrew mitchell

What if the poem
you are reading
is really reading you.
The caricature of a poem
is as follows:
Having large ears
one hears what
one has to say
especially when
thinking out loud
in reviews.
Watching the reader
with chameleon eyes
it follows the reader
on every line
never missing a move,
looking for any positive
or negative reaction,
any irregularities :
skipping lines, in a hurry,
the frowns, the smiles
taking in the imagery
of the reader.
Finally, the caricature
of the poem
has voice to
graciously accept
your judgement, your critique
or show you the door,
the end of the line
with its tongue
sticking out.

it's alive, it's alive, it's alive.
Yes, poems are...and I do believe they read us as we are reading them.
They speak to us...they try to provoke a reaction, an interaction....
love affair between reader and poem...
we become one.

I agree J, a poem can provoke or massage a reader’s thoughts. Thank you J.
