Who sanctions the heart to break?

Who sanctions the heart to break?

A Poem by andrew mitchell

How love plays
the heart strings
where the heart
sings of highs and lows:
scaling the heights
of euphoric love
only to slide
down the lows
over the scar tissue
on the other side,
the underbelly.
Yes! Once upon a time
the heart was interested
in the call for love.
It’s just that the heart
was born in the wrong time,
the wrong place, and
in the wrong species.
Yes! The wrong species
where love and hearts
go their flippant ways
and when the cold bites
where winter sets in,
tread carefully.
It’s not your fault.
It’s just in
the wrong species
as we are
just factory seconds of true love
and where only fiction
has a unscathed heart.
It’s not your fault
that Cupid’s arrow
had a bend that
returned to sender.
Maybe love sanctions all
in its term in office.
