I cannot give you
my hand
for it has had
much suffering,
the heart is broken
beyond repair.
But if you
want a taste,
to get up close,
I carry my love
on my sleeve.
This crazy poem stirs a mix of ideas in my head. I start with the pope & cardinals, I believe, who would have people kiss their ring. This gets me on that track where the narrator of your poem feels a bit haughty & standoffish in his/her offering of "love" . . . & lots of times, that exactly the way some people dole out their so-called love . . . as if we should be so privileged! How sad is this? With a bit of a twist too. Tells a sad, sad story though, of heartache. Most of us know what that feels like. All part of life's rich tapestry so they say. Nice piece of brevity Andrew.
