An idea for a poem

An idea for a poem

A Poem by andrew mitchell

And they’re racing,
out of the blocks
verse one gallops
on its way
followed by
two and three,
at the back
on the trot
is verse four.
Now, in the race is
stanza one, what a stud
and looking tired
here comes stanzas
two and three.
It’s going to be
a close finish folks,
those lines are
gathering momentum.
How exciting and with
the finishing line
in the writer’s sight,
The End,
they’re racing
for their lives.
Hang onto your seat
it’s going to be
a photo finish everyone
and some words are
receiving a real whipping.
And it’s all over
reader came first
followed by the meaning
and the title came last,
An idea for a poem.
It was all rather sudden.
Boy! That whip hurt.

Love the metaphor! LOL! :)
Appreciate the smiles. I needed that. Lately, I've been all too serious. Guess it's the cold. Kinda takes the fun out of life. Well written, my friend.

Thank you for the smile too.
This is great! A lot of times certain lines have more meaning or influence than others. We often find out after the poem is over.

Very creative write about how ideas come to mind and in the end it's our readers who always win. Sometimes we find that their subjective interpretations completely turn what we thought we were writing upside down. Or even they tell us what we should write, thinking they know us better than ourselves.

Thank you for your words.
I enjoyed this mirthful look at the writing process. I have to admit sometimes the horses don't always stop at the end of the race for me. It's been difficult reigning them in and cleaning up the mess left behind. Nice poem my friend.

Thank you Carlos.
We are blessed to have you on this site Emperor Andrew. What a creative pen you have.
Analogy is wonderful compared to a race and race horses. Tell your wife to spare the whip. Lol
Excellent work.

Hehehe! You are welcome Emperor Andrew.
LOL if my poems were a horse race I doubt any stanzas would ever stay on track very long:/ probably would end up looking more like a crash derby:)

I like the idea but I think your horse lost its jockey at the quarter-mile pole. Ideas need the right words to make us the hear the hoofbeats.
