A biblical connection

A biblical connection

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Do you Adam take
Eve’s bosom
to have and
to hold?
Yes! Yes! Yes. I do.
Do you Eve take
Adam’s family jewels to be,
to have and to hold?
Yes! Yes! Yes! I do.
You may remove
your leaves and
mate quietly.

The removal of leaves (which can be taken to mean the fig leaves fashioned by the pair as covering) points to the time after the 'fall;' the exchange of 'I do's' is reminiscent of Adam's exclamation when he is roused from that deep sleep and exclaims in more ways we can imagine when he is first introduced to Eve, all this rising action contrasts starkly with the directive to do it "quietly." That sticks in the mind well after rumination. Truly a biblical 'knowing.' And Adam knew Eve and begat a son.... Thanks for sharing.
