The catch up

The catch up

A Poem by andrew mitchell

It was only when
youth had caught up
with old age
puffed and exhausted
that old age replied.
I’ve been waiting.

My god, Andrew--this is horrifying! haha. You know, I actually had a terrible dream once in my twenties where I met my elderly self. I woke up in a nursing home, looked in the mirror, and saw an old hag staring back at me--I couldn’t stop touching my face in complete horror lol. Then these young people came around, who I suppose were my future children, and because they thought I was senile, I just went along with it and accepted my “old person life.” When I finally woke up, I jumped out of bed completely stunned. It really shook me--but your poem brought that memory right back. A chilling and clever piece, Andrew!

no worries, my friend. God bless you.
