Raffled

Raffled

A Poem by Amanda Renee

So, this kid in my class won the sneaker raffle today,

(I thought the poster promoting this was was funny because it said,
"Come to school on time and win a sneaker)

He came back in the room with his new pair of
Black and White Vans, just his size and was beaming!

His classmates quickly started mocking him because
his prize was not a pair of Nike Airs.
And he gave into their ridicule,
Putting the perfectly good sneakers aside,

If only he lived in California,
They would have been cool,
And if only he didn't care, about what they said,
He would have been proud to wear any shoes in school.

Sounds like he was getting a good, if rough, life lesson.

bEAUTIFUL WRITING. I appreciate the empathetic tone. Children can be so cruel.

Children can be so cruel. The outcomes can be tragic. What a shame he gave in to their ridicule. All this designer and label stuff is such a pain in the backside. Such shallowness. Powerful writing Amanda.

Kids are both cruel and stupid for quite awhile. If we think of us as animals, we are the most dangerous creature currently alive. If we don't teach our little monsters properly they will grow into big monsters. Oh this can't be good....

I love where your writing takes me. (sort of...

We should all wear Chuck Taylor's and smoke weed. Most people are crazy (pretending otherwise) : )

His classmates are very mean...many school kids don't understand what ridicule can do to a classmate.
And some wonder why there are so many young suicides...between online and in person ridicule...overwhelming for the young minds and hearts.
