Dear Reader

Dear Reader

A Poem by Amanda Renee

Dear Reader,

You are a gift to me because I can

Tell you things I cannot tell others.

Like about the time I mourned

The absence of stars in the sky,

I can talk to you

Across space and time,

each word, carefully chosen,

And which to leave out.

I think novelists write specifically for an audience...to please an audience.

Poets are more selfish...we write because we have to...we write because it is like a machine within us that turns on and off...our control limited.
But what makes poetry such a great genre is when we share our words with others...
we make up a community giving ideas to others, emotions for others to relate to...
I always mourn the nights when the stars are absence.
Love this openness....

Very nicely captured. Don't we all write for the reader and tell our secrets, as well as some not so secret to them. All for a connection between the writer and reader and removing even one of those parts make the entire thing redundant.

These are profound thoughts. Our words will speak to strangers long after we're gone. There's a theory that art cheats death.

Thank you so much for your comment which lead me to your beautiful writing...
I enjoyed this poem of yours, Amanda. It speaks to aspects of our creativity. And who better knows this particular fundamental truth then a Teacher. I wish I would have been born with more patience as an individual because if I had I would have been an educator. It takes a certain type of personality and selflessness to teach I feel. And many times in our society many deem it a thankless job. It is not. There is no greater calling in life than to want to teach and inspire others towards their better selves. It was my English teacher Mr. Wolman back in the 80s who gave me the courage of self expression and craft. Even now in my late fifties I still am learning because that is life itself. Constant education. We only graduate when we take our last breath. This poem of yours spoke to me because there is so much truth in the words. It is the mantra of a writer. Thank you for sharing your poem with us. CLE
