Bracelets

Bracelets

A Poem by Amanda Renee
"

Call it a poem or a really short story about bracelets and more importantly, humans.

"

So there we stood there,

In the doorway of our classroom,

Trying to put on bracelets

That we both received from

From a thoughtful student,

Fussing with the clasps

And feeling guilty that we couldn't get them on

Because the clasps were so small.

And we gave apologies to her the next day

About how we couldn’t get the bracelets on...

Then, the little gift giver

Explained to us that there was another way,

“The string is elastic” she said…

“Just stretch it and put it on.”

My co-teacher and I stared at each other

Realizing our stupidity,

And that the elastic string

Was right there,

All the time.

Sometimes the truth is too close for us to see it.

This is a good description of finding insight. Awareness is not insight. We are all aware of what a wristband is, but we don't really have insight into it's function. That kid had insight, now you are aware.

This is a wonderful poem you've made here.

Thank you so much, (finding insight is what I was going for and sometimes so hard to find)
