Book Love

Book Love

A Poem by Amanda Renee

My book is like a friend,

Not the kind of friend who stops talking to you,

After 20 years

Or after saving their life.

My book is a friend who

Stays with me through the night

And we cry together,

On the last page.

Nothing like getting absorbed into a good book, that you just can’t put down. Feeling you know the characters so well. The down side though is always the last page. You don’t want it to end. So relatable Angela. I have been there.

There is something about human consciousness I think everyone possesses. It is more alive in some than others but I think everyone of us is prone to storytelling. We are all living in our own personal narrative, our own little fantasy. When I read a good book I can tell it's good because it transports me into that world and I experience my own little fantasy within someone else's little fantasy and when it's done proper, it feels like I've just spent time with family or very close friends. This love (and desire for such) is in all of us, in whatever form, be it stone tablets or digital copy or oral tradition... a good "book" will always be loved. It is a universal human tradition unique to our species. I've been drinking by the way so, if this doesn't make sense that's why.
