you are the salve
that soothes
the ache
the balm
that coats
the layers
of dark
surrounding
my pain.
the remedy
to cure
what was
and what will
never be
again.

taking it day by day

we've made it further
than either of us
bargained for.

expecting less,
we both got more.

reach into my hectic,
peel the frenzy out of me,
ease me into your calm.

apparently, my sense of direction
isn't so bad after all.

Receiving you,
grounding me
to the sky.

levitate outside
the walls that
held me prisoner
for so long.

you sedate me.
take my ephemeral
and make it real.

I rush into you
fill you with my storm

your cool,
my heat,
together we
are warm.

I will never be beautiful,
at least, not the kind of face
that launches men into battle
or leads them to fall from grace

But I can make you smile
and for a little while
take you someplace
you'd rather be.

And when I'm gone
you will remember me
as beautiful
because that's what I made you see.

i have said it before .. your format is wonderful! finding calm in the frenzy is a spectacular gift .. and the beauty your lines speak to is the best ;) (i could never wear Calvin Klein ;)

the leaving in the last verse speaks to me as the "other woman" ... not sure you meant the leaving in that way ... but the tragedy and vague satisfaction of the time together is poignant to me .. makes me think of Phoebe Snow's song:

I am always interested how people interpret my poems. I never thought of the last as the other woman, but I can see how it would be, could be, seen as such, because really, she's with a man who is out of reach, but not because there is someone else, but because he keeps himself at a distance.

yes!! sometimes so odd the takes we have on one another :) my mother-in-law has been involved for many years with the arts around my place ... i was building a business in construction at the time ... it was winter and things always slow then .. she called to see if i could fill a spot as "model" for a class being given by some artist ... the guy that was slated had to bow out at the last minute and the need was for someone with a beard ... i had one .. a full one ..red ... :) so i accepted .. the class did pencil, oil and water color expressions of me and when i looked at them it was everything from a clown to Greek god .. i am not kidding!! the one presenting the class had promised me his pencil but he wanted to keep it and so i got his oil .. and it really did look like me .. funny thing our eyes and ears eh!?

K.L... each one of these is a little gem, but of them all, "reach into my hectic,/peel the frenzy out of me,/ease me into your calm." is by far my favorite. Such beautiful self-contained little snippets, but even more beautiful as a whole ensemble.

I sense a degree of settling here, not as in settling for second best, but as in becoming accustomed and pleased with the situation, settling in.
The last stanza on the right side appealed to me on a number of levels it conjured up for me.
