I'll trade you
your umbrella
for my raincoat.

it keeps me dry
on the outside,

but inside
is a constant drip.

we can laugh
together

when the storm
takes the rest of them
by surprise.

That's what it should remind you of, because that is exactly how I thought it when I read Relic's piece and formulated this companion to it.

-- "but inside/is a constant drip" is a very compelling and crushing image of what depression is like... -- i really liked the contrast between what's "inside" and what's "outside" in this piece... and like most of the other reviewers... i read this poem as a love poem... and i also felt that this was a very poignant expression of the disconnect between two people in a yin and yang equation... because they spend time with each laughing but at least one of them keeps their pain hidden from the other... -- i know you meant this to be about two friends as you said so in one of your comments... but i thought i should let you know how i received this heartbreaking but beautiful piece of poetry...

Well, I guess I love my friends, so it comes through that way. I am a bit free and easy with my love.:) But yes, it was meant to go hand in hand with Relic's piece about depression, which struck me as such an accurate portrayal of what depression is like. Thank you.
