Something New

A Poem by Alli
"

Happiness

"
Take a chance:
A leap of faith.
Challenge yourself.
Write about the wonders instead of the walls.
Write about the over-comings instead of the falls.
Because I'm sick of building walls to be broken
And I try writing poems to be spoken
But they always come out broken.

Write about the words which don't exist
Write about the feelings you can't resist

I insist

Write about the inner tingling bliss
Write about the chocolate wasted kiss
Write about the one who lisps
          Who speaks so eloquently
          Despite her impediment
          With this.

Write about joys instead of the cries
Write about living; you don't want to die
Write about the girls who just always try
          And even when they fall
          They never let go
And even when the grass is greener on the otherside
          They make their grass grow.

And I'm writing about the feelings which I've never felt
And I'm thinking about knees that have never knelt
On the floor begging for perfection
          And the judges who judge
          And feed them objections.
And I'm thinking of the words which were never spelt
And I'm thinking about the girls who begged for some help
But their cries were wisped away
In the silence of the wind
          Despite their eloquence
          And freedom from sins

Write about the good instead of the bad
Write about the love instead of the sad
Write about the bliss instead of the mad
Write about the happiness that I've never had
          Since you stole for yourself
          And you never shared
          The gift of it's wealth

Write about laying under the stars
Write about raising up uneven bars
Write of survival and not of the scars
Write about saying "what we seek we are"
          And tattoo your ribs
          So you can abide
          By the heart within
          That's beating inside

Write not of the false
But write of the true
Write not of the others
But write about you

Write of your riches and not what you lack
Wear your head high and don't turn your back
Write about love instead of attacks
Write to forgive to cut you some slack
          The works so tough
          You're too hard on yourself
And you need to take time
          To care for your health

Don't write about dying but write of the fight
Don't write about living through the lonely nights

Just give it your all
Tell your story through rhyme
Don't ever give up
Just give it some time.

Write down the words that cut to the bone
Write of the sex and not of the moan
Write about feelings and not of the groan
Write about happy though you've never known
          What happy feels like
But I know how to run
And I know how to bike
And I know how to catch
          The wind in my kite
So maybe I know what freedom feels like

Write for the lonely and not for the vain
Write about sunshine instead of the pain
Write about water instead of the rain
Write who you are not who you became
Write about living not feeding the game
You've become so good at playing
          It's hard
          I know what you're saying
But you're worth it to live
          So I recommend staying

Write about she who talks with a lisp
Write about how she walked through the mist
          And still speaks so eloquently
          Though she suffers with this.

Take a chance; a leap of faith
Just put down the knife
Challenge yourself
To write what it is
          That's good in your life
