Closer to Heaven

A poem inspired by the novel I am writing

I thank the days that made me run into you,

I thank the ways that guided you to me.

When everything seemed impossible,

For every closed door you became the key.

 

You took me steps closer to heaven,

You made me soar like a dove,

You drew  our dreams a beautiful painting,

And named it: The art of love.

Days will only make things better,

They'll revive the painting you drew.

I will get closer and closer,

I will be in heaven the day I am with you.

^^ This sounds very pretty, I like how this poem flows, it is very graceful and reminds me of young love. I really love the imagery this piece gives me, you mentioned painting in the poem and I can see a beautiful spring painting of dove's flying together.

Beautiful poetry! I like how dreams can be revealed in a painting....though, I do feel that other birds, like an eagle, could create a stronger "soaring" image than a dove, but I realize that you needed that to rhyme with love, which is fine, but when we tend to fit in words for the sake of rhyming, we can end up with lines sounding forced, without reaching that "speechless" level.....:)
