I am .....A Poem by anartaoI am the downwards journey of the guillotines
blade
, releasing heads made heavy from the crowns of
Empire made
I am the star that floats blood red, above a
field of black,
the people of the sun speak out with a voice
thats taken back
I am the blood that permeates throughout the
Delta’s oil
, the violent dance of poets feet above the
blackened soil
I am the bodies bloodied, draped on tombs in
Santa Cruz
, the blood that soaks the earth for many
becomes the fires muse
I am Zapata’s spirit, grave bound with legs
that never bent,
a commitment carved on souls about just how a
life is spent
I am Allende’s last address, with the
gunshots growing near
, a defiant act of sacrifice, a love that shone
so clear
I am every ransom thats been made on
Somalia’s wastebin sea’s,
a peoples answer to those with plenty doing
what they please
I am Toussaint’s rebellion, new birth through
liberation’s throes,
a nation given freedom, though still
marred by Empires blows
I am the shrouds of martyrs, fallen fighting
for the cause,
choosing to give all that they have, not
selling it like w****s
I am the fist that clenches, rising high
above the heads
, that rage that takes us to the streets whilst
most lay warm in beds
I am the hope that sheds its light in the
dark parts of a heart
, that single step thats made by which a life’s
journey will start
I am the stone in the children’s hands,
tank-wards bound in Gaza
I am the single roar from many mouths in Tahrir
Plaza
I am the Boxer’s legacy, fighting corrupted foreign powers I am those facing cells for freedom, those long and lonely hours
I am the message Nat Turner heard, that cry to break the yoke
I am that final straw from which the camels
back was broke
I am the love that feeds a soul, and hatreds
eternal bane
I am the flame that flickers bright within the
pouring rain
I am the fire deep inside that see’s one
fight until the death
, the fight for freedom and equal rights for
all those drawing breath © 2013 anartao |
