Dance to Forget

Dance to Forget

A Poem by AJ Douglas

I've known enough desperados like you in my day
who dare to dance perched on the precipice
having been burned too many times
flesh charred to the bone from diving deep
into the same polluted pool of acidic affection
In your world of razorblade romance
and sardonic smiles sincerity doesn't stand a chance
a heart such as mine could never hope to win
imperfection an unforgivable sin
Love songs echo in my head though I no longer sing
while I fling every falling star I ever wished upon
out of my window as I watch you dance to forget
