The promise

Two pinkys. One promise.
A promise that can change your life.
A promise that changed mine.

I was sixteen. Lyle Mage was seventeen. His hair was falling in his eyes and I couldn't help but laugh when he held out his pinky and said. "Do you promise , Kanzie Waters , to be my girl forever and ever , to greet me with your kiss , to love me , always?"

I smiled up at him , he always was one head taller than me. "You mean , keep everything the same as now , forever?"

He nodded. "Yup. Forever and ever."

I wrapped my pinky around his. "Yeah , I promise to keep it all the same , even when I'm ninety nine."

"I love you Kanzie." Lyle had whispered , slowly , his lips meeting mine.

"I love you too."

I didn't think anything then. I thought that a pinky promise is a pinky promise. I loved him and always will , even without our pinkys.
