Chapter 1A Chapter by StarrbittYou get to meet the goth girl, her friends, and the birthmark." Bladen's always getting into trouble. Why do we have to wait for him?"
My voice echoed off the hallway walls and my own agitation bounced on me. Clearly I'm not trying to hide anything. When school's over I want to leave right away, not stand outside the office and watch my bestfriend pace as she chews on her fingernails. The halls are silent and empty. I stare up at the ceiling lights trying to see if my eyes melt away and when they don't, bang the back of my head against the smooth wall. I'm pretty sure my boredom stinks. Jade took her fingers from her mouth and smoothed down her black and pink skull coveered skirt nervously. Then she fixed her torn tights and pulled up her clunky boots. She just couldn't stop moving. "He's my boyfriend. And your friend. We should at least give him a ride home." Since she has nothing to fix now, she plays with her lip ring twirling it between her pointer finger and thumb. The lights reflect on the silver rod making it shine. I wonder could her lip ring make my eyes melt? "Well I'm going outside. If I can't leave at least I can create the ollusion to," I push myself away from the wall, rubbing the birthmark stranded on my throat and heading for the exit. My own clunky Mary Janes clump heavily on the tile floor, a dark contrast compared to the tan squares. Jade doesn't stop pacing, I can hear her boots walking back and forth as I leave. But just as I reach the doors, I look back and the office doors swing open. My hand freezes on the door handles and I curl my fists even tighter. Right when I'm going to leave hes done? Bladen walks out and embraces Jade in a hug, lifting her slightly off the ground. He pecks her on the cheek, above her multi-pierced ear and on the hollow of her throat as if he hasn't seen her in decades. I hear his soft whisper but not the words he speak, Jade sighing as he releases her from anxiety. I avert my gaze whn Bladen lifts his shaggy head and glimpses at me briefly. I decide to go outside anyway and push hard against the metal suddenly feeling claustrophobic. A sharp breeze cuts through my striped tank top and paper-clipped shorts, a sudden change for the normally hot weather. I don't expect them to join me anytime soon, their too busy reuniting. I go over to the curb where the buses drop everyone off and pick up some scattered rocks. Thier not that big, fitting in the middle of my palm, and mostly round then angled. Their black, glittery. Another piece of worked-on pavement. I throw them hard in the direction of the parking lot. It's mostly covered with teacher cars and I try aiming for a tail-light when they walk out. Looking past my shoulder Jade motions me to follow as Bladen pulls her closer to him, his arm relaxed around her shoulders. He doesn't look anywhere near me and I know why. © 2012 StarrbittAuthor's Note
