THE GIRL WITH COLITIS GOES BYA Story by angelDiscussion about a song
The radio was playing softly as John and I were enjoying a late supper.
"Picture yourself on a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies," sang a familiar voice. I asked, "Do you mean trees the color of tangerines, or trees with tangerines growing on them?" "Take yer pick," he replied. "I don't actually know. It was just what came out when I started to write the thing." "I think the trees are that color," I decided. "Orange trees, with orange bark and orange leaves." "Whatever ye like," John said agreeably. "I have another question," I said. "What is plasticine?" "It's this stuff that kids make stuff out of," he explained. "A brand of modeling clay, I guess you'd say." I nodded, then asked the big question in my mind. "Who," I wanted to know, "Is the girl with colitis?" "Where'd that come from?" he asked. "The song, the same song. You know," and here I sang, "The girl with colitis goes by." "The girl with kaleidoscope eyes," he corrected, "Although I kinda like that colitis idea." He lit a cigarette, thought for a moment, then added, "Yeah;damn it, I wish I'd o' thought o' that. Those woulda been the words, if I'd o' thought of it." I guess we would've made a good team, songwriting.
