he once cheated death 

in his earlier life

the now broken man had purpose

he knew direction he knew the flame 

that bound others 

his burning sensation has been faulted

by the untrue words of another

being led down a path of deception

he was not the true love of that other

but rather a story told so wrong

many times he had just given up

willingly seeking death as way of avoidance

in effort to keep the hurt at bay

he tried yet again for the umpteenth time

but found no win for his efforts

he once thought he cheated death 

no death cheated him
