worst day

an announcement over the junior high school pa
shared the unsettling news

PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY HAS DIED!
SCHOOL WILL BE LET OUT IN 15 MINUTES

i walked out the front door
every parent
had come 
to pick up their child
even my mother 

never do i remember 
her coming to get me

worst day
of my life 
in the 7th grade

i remember

a nation in shock

i remember

the day
 i lost faith 
in rule of law

i remember

the day 
i lost faith 
in god

i remember


i will never 
forget
