The Sea

This is a poem I wrote about one of the things I love most. Please enjoy and feedback is welcome!

As the waves roll by

I drift with a contented sigh 

As I watch the birds soar throughout the sky

The taste of salt on my tongue 

As I am gently flung

While the waves sing their song unsung 

I hold by breath and go under

Into a world of silence and wonder

While the waves crash above like thunder 

The sea is where I belong 

Though I can never stay for too long

The pull to be back among the waves is oh so strong

The expression seems honest and effortless. 'The taste of salt on my tongue ' I like this bit, appealing to the reader's senses.

I liked the story line immensely, simple and reminded me of my boyhood on the coast in Wales. We spent all our summer on the beach and in the Autumn plied the huge waves for rides.

We were absolutely free in those days and had acres of beach to ourselves, bronzed and healthy in the salt air, it was wonderful and I always remember it as one of the best of times..
