On the Purported Shortness of ExistenceA Poem by AshrA quick exercise in poetry. The instruction is pretty simple, and can lead to interesting compositions : picking any piece of advice / common sense / rule / view, and arguing for the opposite side.
Builders are wasters and self-martyrs, that I know.
Beauty is meant to burn, beauty is so. Silver corrodes, stars collapse, youth fades. They say, "Life is too short !" Senseless complaints ! Length is the ennemy of brilliance. Great drama unfolds in an evening. Your life is drawn out, stretched to the horizon ; As you look into it, the sun blinds you. It's a river that has ran too long, so long. The bed has gone mossy and the water murky. Pay a dime for a song, and drink yourself to the grave. You'll shine a light brighter - briefer - than civilisation. © 2014 Ashr |
