Why?

Why?

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

We tend to be so predictable as a species. Predatory to the core. Yet here and there I see hope of evolution taking a kinder approach. Lets Hope before we kill us all.

"

If I could only see the truth

to look beyond our simple ways

I would love knowledge even more

than all the lies of long gone days

If man could put away his sword

and beat to plowshares all he'd worn

Then I might be able to see the light

and forget the failings, of those I scorn

If we were not such fragile beings

that prayed for things not needed

Then I might think we had a chance

but all the lessons still go unheeded

If life would only start as it ends

with great knowledge left to share

We might not trample each other

then sin to hide what we must bear

If life could only do all these things

I would live deep in the truth so wise

To take the life, that I've been given

and turn to God with forgiving eyes

I think we are of one Spirit my friend...we love...and that is our calling and our creed. We are misunderstood...we are called weak...presumed naive...when our strength and wisdom is the very thing others fail to find an empathy for...and it saddens us. But we have no fear, knowing that love which resides within us is greater than the evil which abides in the world. Keep fighting the good fight. Wonderful write.

What a coincidence that every stanza of your poem in tribute to the Kennedies begins with the word "if". MY Kennedy tribute, written on the occasion of John, Jr.'s death, is ENTITLED "IF"! (I also wrote one when Jackie died, called "JBKOde". Since your R's are turned off, I will ask you here to swing by them and give them a look.
But--shameless self-promotion aside--this is an amazing poem. As is the norm for you, you seem capable of tapping a seemingly bottomless well of wisdom that you have secreted in your back yard, to pull up bucketsful of beautiful sentiments and phrases. A truly amazing piece, my friend...Now let's see if the site will allow this review to upload on this, the SECOND try!

I remember the day President John F. Kennedy was killed. I was 5 years old. My babysitter was crying the complete day. I asked her many times why she was crying. She told me a Angel was killed today. Funny how simple memories won't leave you. John F. Kennedy had energy and a caring face. I believe we would have a better world today of he lived. Thank you for amazing poem. Brought back a sad memory.

The tone is subtly ironic, is what I think, implying that your meaning may well be the opposite i.e. don't wait until all you rules are made and life is perfect, get in and get dirty and find out what life is about. Nice write!

This definitely grabs the attention and makes one think about choices, realities and so much more. If only people would see it for the well composed magic it is...then again as I pan down I realize many people enjoy and cherish such a intelligent write.

Catherine of Sienna said a person needs to dwell in two states, the first is in self knowledge, and the second is in the knowledge of Gods love for us. To live only in the first...leads to gloom and despair, to live only in the second ...leads to presumption.
Thanks Tate.
