The Star

I reached with hands of innocence,
I longed for that bright star.
I felt that in its brilliance
Dwelt sweet dreams of near and far.

I wondered how to reach those dreams
The joy, the mystery.
I see now how a thing seems
Isn’t always how it will be.

A darkness, pain, and sorrow shroud
My heart, my soul, and world.
I’m only one of the crowd.
That star’s hot flame left my heart cold.
