When You're Asleep, I Count Your Freckles

When You're Asleep, I Count Your Freckles

A Poem by Alexandra

All you want is me
& all I have is none
Why is it so hard for people to see struggle?
Beyond my smile & excited brown eyes
There lies an internal conflict

Consistently not okay
Consistently waiting for purpose to renew

It hurts without saying how much pain your name brings
& it goes without saying how many times he's cried because I still see green

If only I could give & want the same
If only this could be a different time & place
