Lafayette Key

A Poem by Alexandra

This feeling is insatiable
Austin keeps telling me things will get better
But, he’s just as depressed about Alexis as I am about life currently
We spend hours contemplating the what if’s on his couch and how we could possible mend these wounds
It’s ironic that only a year ago we used to cause each other this pain
And now, we’re hurt by our own lovers
Contemplating the idea of him moving to Georgia or me running away to Europe
He said he’s over film
I tell him I’m over the idea of entirely falling in love again
He laughs bewildered at the idea
“You’re a lotus remember?”
The tattoo pangs still, it’s like it’s reaching for it’s pair
“He’s never coming back. It’s all just lost hope in trying to find something that never existed in someone”
You sit so cool against your arm rest
Contemplating what could be done next
I emphasize how brilliant it is to find these conversations with someone again
Our love is the very friendship that molds us together
You look at me solemnly and reach out your hand
“I’m glad you’re here. If we couldn’t be together, I knew we could still be friends.”
We both lost them, we know.
But, we’re not alone anymore.
We cried the rest of that evening while eating pizza in your basement.

I end our friendly reunion with:
“If there was one good thing about all of this, it’s finding you again”
