Hoboken, NJ

A Poem by Alexandra

I lay in my mother’s bed

Sports again on play

I have to go to the movies at 7

But if it were up to me, I’d stay home

I spoke about you over dinner tonight

Some old habits don't die

Your name used to bring such positive connotations

Now, it feels like force to make these syllables come out

Mike tells me to come visit him in Hoboken to start a new

But, there’s nothing there I feel either

New York men are so optimistic and full of life

But, I already had that

And look at where it ended

Now we can’t even look at one another

This town is killing you

And I’ve been saying it since Day One

Elizabeth’s miasma is infectious

My mother always told me to leave

I just hope you’ll listen to me too
