Gone Girl

Gone Girl

A Poem by Alexandra

Remember I referenced an ex-lover brought their other ex-lover in order to amuse the aforementioned ex-lover who also brought their ex-lover to a bar

Nothing ever is good when I get involved in people’s businesses
I end up being a part of that equation
Every time.
So, when I came over two nights ago
I thought this is what it feels like to be with you
One to one
On a personal basis
Understand the humanity behind your wide eyes
And a bottle of wine
To help the mood
To help you feel better about the experience
I wanted to tell you
“This is going to hurt and you’re probably going to keep thinking of her”
So why didn’t I when you kissed me...
And the next morning
When the sun crept behind the blinds
And you grabbed the blanket to warm us
Held me so willingly
Placed my hair in all the right places
Kissed my forehead out the door
Told me:
“Why don’t you stay for the day and do work?”
Did you not think of my ex-lover?
Your closest friend

Huh! How wonderfully confused am I at the end, wondering what their relationship was in respect to bringing the ex-lover and the ex-lover bringing theirs. And not to mention, the signing of "your closest friend" as if it were a letter. Definitely a piece that gets me thinking and questioning.
Also, my favorite line was, "understand the humanity behind your wide eyes."
