Smile

A Poem by Alexandra

I can write infinitely
How you make me feel
This is a writer’s high
Compelling heart to hand to paper

Does it hurt when you know what I know
Does this make you ache so much inside
You want to bleed it out
And see if it’ll decompress your stuffy vessel

You’ve been accumulating, love
You have no idea what to do with yourself
You’ve reached that dead end
It’s an interesting trap, isn’t it?

Where will you go now
Tell me where you’ll hide and confide into
Since I know what you know
The most unfaithful people you put on your behalf

I’ve always said it
These people were never for you
But, you kept doing it
Kept f*****g the wrong girls
Kept talking to the wrong boys

Even me
How beneath me
How low I had to go to find you
That’s true disparity

It was no surprise when I heard at the bar:
“ I always wondered why you would date someone that’s not your caliber.”
It seems I was never the only one.

Really loved this piece! Each stanza was like a different piece in that the tone varied such as from the first which is came across as somewhat dreamy to me--just love the first line as I connect with it as a writer :)-- to the second which was accusatory and a little terse from the stress of the "de" in decompress due to the rhythm of the words, to the third which was gently sarcastic, and so on... I wasn't expecting this kind of poem from the title, and the content also contrasted with it in a pleasant surprise.
