I Can’t Think Of Anyone Else

I Can’t Think Of Anyone Else

A Poem by Alexandra

Pores filled
Dilated eyes
Scruffy hair
I heard you whisper, before you even arrived
The notion of loving you still is instinctual
I have a tendency to ruin things
When I walk on eggshells

You weigh so much, love
You walked through the door with such empty eyes
This isn’t who you are
You look like you’ve been chasing ghosts
How’re you?
Tell me the truth
Stop looking at the walls
And find me on Washington Avenue

When I sleep at night
I can’t help but look at those eyes
They look so sad
You don’t look okay
Are you okay?
How are you?
I can’t think of anyone else
On a night like this
When the wind blows
And the cheer is everywhere
When the bones in this body
Is so hollow
Your breath can blow me away
Swallow me whole
Enjoy this sweetness
Since you’ve become so cold & bitter

Open these arms
And let me warm you
Just so temporary
You have my number
Just call
That’s all you have to do

poignant and frosted but far from freezing. A eulogy for a lost December morning.
Well done.
