Last Night

Last Night

A Poem by Alexandra

Visit my dreams
Blood is dripping from your mouth
This is my usual nightmare
You’re smiling too hard, old love
Is this a call for me?

My old friends ask, “ Why do you still care?”
I care, because you were once the love of my life
I stayed because I knew there was no one else
That could hold you up
You weigh so much
But, I was willing to carry all the burdens

In my nightmares at night
You don’t call for me
You stare into my eyes
Bloodshot
Just like you looked three weeks ago
So empty
Desolate vessel
Blood pouring from your gums
Smiling ear to ear
Reaching out for me
