Let’s talk about the night
I found everything out
On a stupid phone
Etch my name a little harder
I want to bite on the edge
F*****g bite the screen back
Hand it back to you
I hold things in
Because I can take it
I’ll take the weight
Until you bring me so down
I’ll snap in half
A perfect sight
For a lazy f**k
That never cared about Plain Jane
Erase the videos
The photos
The audio
The premium snapchats of Her
I’m not going to win anyone back
I’ll just follow my heart somewhere else
Till I fall into a hole again
The pain, bitterness and rage reverberated through. It starts off aggressivly, something about biting the cell captures a lot. That's poetry. Packs a lot in a little.
A poem can often be outlined by the verbs, and a lot of the verbs are violent, mirroring the emotions. Bity. Erase. Etch hard. Snap.
Snap in this intance having a double meaning (snap/snapchat).
I feel that it's nearly impossible to be "loyal" in this multimedia world. There's an old saying "you're only as loyal as your options" and now, any chump has a million options, snap, IG, FB, twitter, etc...
But as much as the speaker feels betrayed and bitter, and rightfully venemous, there's almost a self-blaming and fatalistic resignation in the end.
"I’ll just follow my heart somewhere else
Till I fall into a hole again"
Dante once described hell as a shade literally repeating the same act for eternity, and that's what I see here, almost a self-imposed hell destined to reoccur.
Anyhow, this is excellent.
I hardly review anymore, but this got my juices flowing.
Good stuff.
