Mother

Mother

A Poem by Alexandra
"

Wendy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 46

"
How brittle you look in the light
You are doing everything to keep it together
Your hair is falling
Your hands are shaking

I don’t recall ever seeing you get so old
This disease is taking the beauty you have
My mother
My only mother

I regret the days pleading for your premature death
You deserve the chance to live a long life
But, Parkinson’s does not forgive

And you will forget
And you won’t remember the days I said I love you
And you won’t remember me doing your makeup to cheer you up
And you won’t remember me

Painful to read, this one. Indeed, Parkinson's does not forgive, like ALS and a host of other diseases. Perhaps she won't remember, but you will, and I hope you will give yourself credit.
