maybe

maybe

A Poem by Audrey Murray

maybe i could ride the pink bicycle
that hangs in the window
of the hamburger place
I could ride it through the back alley
round the corner to your house
pn baker street where the cat dreams
in the window basket

maybe we could drink tea
at two instead of three
watch the black squirrel
hide a peanut under a leaf
what will it take
to bring peace to the world
on a sunday afternoon

yes,
Richard Brautigan, a tall lanky man standing forever under the statue of Benjamin Franklin in a park in a city in California agrees with yes.

fawningly, the world on a sunday afternoon requires no more exaggerated attention than any other day.
But perhaps the sentiment of a poet can change even the simplest of domestic perceptions. Does giving any attention to the mundane keep the mundane from happening? Maybe not. But beauty has to, in
most cases, be uncovered.

Beautifully written Audrey.....dana
