Dialogue assignmentA Story by Austin WeathersOne summer my family went on a cruiseOne summer my family went on a cruise “Wow! What a great water slide that was! So, what should we
do next?” I said. “To lay down. My back is killing me,” said my father. “Agreed,” replied my mother. “We still have 4 days left on
the boat, so lets just take it easy for the next few hours.” “Sounds good, I’m going to take a shower and lie down after.
After all, it is taco night at the food court so that’s already going to be
rough for us.” I responded. “Jesus, these tacos are going to cause me to be in the
bathroom all night while you guys are all out,” my brother Ryan chimed in. After my shower, I got dressed and went into my parents
room. “So how are you two feeling?” “My stomach hurts,” said my Dad. Before my mother responded, she asked us, “Is it me or does
Austin look taller?” “Yea, he kinda does,” said Ryan and my dad. Confused about the basis of the question, I walked down to
their side of the room, and back to my original position and then it hit me:
“Holy s**t, the boat is tilting!” My mother then said, “Calm down, Austin, I’m sure --” My father quickly interjected, “Jesus Christ, I knew we
shouldn’t have went on a cruise.” As the storm kicked up, the atmosphere in the room grew more
distraught. “I want to get off this floating death trap now,” my brother said. Then from the boat’s PA system, a voice reached out and
delivered a message, “Attention all passengers, if you are feeling a bit of a
tilt, it’s because the storm winds a blowing.” Remain in your cabins until
further notice, but this is a common occurrence.” After hearing the message, we all looked at each other until
my father broke the silence and said, “4 more days. Then I’ll never be on a
cruise ship again.” © 2017 Austin Weathers |
