Duplicitous Souls (1980)

Duplicitous Souls (1980)

A Poem by PoetryofProvidence

Listen not oh heart
to the moanings of your lord
Distant lay the thoughts
you can ill afford
This twisted channel we call self
swings wide along the course
Far off set contention
dwelling here inside
shiftless as the beaches sand
like the swelling of the tide
The aim is often unless
the strivings of the mad
insanity dwells with us
To keep as though we had
a prison bar to stop it
and under key is kept
enclosed within a locket
to render it inept
Listen to the still voice
who calls so gentlely
though vociferous the other
Tell it stationary be
The restless one dwells with us
We segregate from calm
Retract from it the virtue
Let goodness be our balm
Put them in the dungeon
where darkness does belong
Display our splendid treasure
Joyessly among the throng
Yes heart you are the master
with you has wisdom been
You can well decided the fate
of the one who enters in
Control you can desire
conclusive evidence is in
that you can put out fire
and keep a rein on sin
Be not swayed by ranting
Listen not the the insane
Turn aside to the street
the one that's clear and plain
Invoke you I discreetly
beseech you I do call
Set your aim on piety
resolve us not to fall
Return to all thats righteous
all eternities decree
Bear the image of the light
be not the death of me

Oh duplicitous soul , one side is broken and the other is whole
