Quarantine- by Bastiaan Wheat

I gasped awake, sweat dripping down my entire body. I looked at my clothes; they had changed from a T-shirt and jeans to a yellow jumpsuit. “Hello?!” I yelled from a dark room (I couldn’t see a foot in front of me). “Hello?!” I heard many different voices call back.

Suddenly, the lights flashed on. My eyes adjusted to the light, and the room I was in looked like one of those interrogation rooms from movies, and the door was opened. My back popped as I stood up. I walked out the door, and someone bonked me on the head.

“Sorry about that, you startled me,” a gruffy, deep voice said. I looked up and a black, muscular man stood in front of me. “The name’s Drag, who are you?” The guy asked. “I’m... I’m... I can’t remember?” I complained.

Me and Drag walked into some courtyard, but it was inside. A group of people were arguing and screaming at each other. “What’s up?” Drag asked the group of people. “How do you not know, we are concerned about where we are, you’re not?!” A skinny guy yelled. “Better than where I was last night,” Drag responded.

Suddenly a screen lowered from the roof. “Welcome one and all to the game of trust and betrayal, lease make your votes on the subjects now!” the tv said. “Subjects?” a girl said, “Trust and betrayal?” the guy from before said, “money?” a short girl said.

“The game is simple, someone is tagged and the others must not get tagged and vote out the imposter!” the tv continued. Suddenly purple gas poured into the room. The short girl collapsed as the gas surrounded her. I gagged as the gas entered my lungs.

I dropped to the ground by instinct and crawled to the short girl to try and pull her out of the room. Others began passing out as the air swirled the room. I pulled the girl to the door and tugged on the door handle; it wouldn’t budge.

My eyes felt heavy and my body numbed. I collapsed onto the floor.

Chapter 1- first times the charm

I woke up in the room again, but the light was already on. I rubbed a bruise on my head (I had hit my head when I passed out). A paper blew off the table and onto my lap. I read it, “someone has been tagged out of 15 players; it could even be you!”.

I crumpled up the paper and threw it at the wall. I dusted myself off and walked out the door. The short girl was cradling herself in a corner, trying to make herself smaller. “What’s wrong?” I asked whenever I walked past her.

She looked up at me with terrified eyes. “I forgot to feed my cat, and now I am here, is my cat going to die?!” She complained, tears in her eyes. “Woah, it’s going to be okay, short girl,” I reassured her. “HEY! That is not my name!” She complained, “My name is Iris,” she said.

Suddenly Drag walked by, holding a steaming, buttery biscuit. “Where did you get that?!” Iris yelled. “From the kitchen?” Drag responded, taking a bite. The skinny guy walked down the hall, also eating a biscuit. “The food in this place is way better than my daily cup of Ramen,” He stated.

“Jeez, have you never had any quality food, Levi?!” Iris asked the skinny guy, who I guessed was named Levi. Then we heard a loud bang, like a frying pan getting thrown down a pair of stairs. “Woah, what was that?!” Levi yelped, jumping back at the sound.

We wandered towards the noise, Drag leading us. Drag turned the corner, then immediately backed up, signaling for us to turn back. We pushed past Drag because we were curious.

Red stained the floor, and a girl lay motionless on the ground. Levi screamed the most girlish scream, while the rest of us stayed silent. Suddenly she gasped awake, grabbing at the wound in her chest. She glanced towards the ceiling; one of the tiles was missing, white pupils stared down at us.

Suddenly, they disappeared into the darkness. Iris rushed forward and tried to help the girl up (she was so short that she couldn’t help much). Drag and I chimed in and finally got the girl standing.

“Thank you... so much...” She managed to say without passing out. “I am pretty sure I have passed by a medical bay before; we have to get there!” Levi yelled. We followed Levi as the girl struggled to stay conscious.

We pulled into the medical bay; a guy was vomiting into the sink. We sat the girl down and a bench, while Iris and Levi searched for bandages. “No... it.. It is him...” She said, pointing a finger at the man. “What do you mean?!” Drag demanded the girl.

“He attack...” suddenly she passed out, cold. He suddenly turned angrily towards us. CRACK! His jaw suddenly rocketed open, to the point you could fit a watermelon in his mouth. “IT HURTS!!!” He yelled as a black substance began to spill from his mouth.

Black tentacles erupted from his back; stretching across the room and trying to grab at us. Then purple gas spilled in from the vents. The man shook violently as the gas covered him. I gagged at the feeling of the gas entering my lungs.

Suddenly I woke up in a bright room that looked like a court; I was handcuffed to a chair. On a massive billboard it said, “vote out who you think is tagged!”. The others were handcuffed down. The guy that attacked us was for some reason acting normally, like he didn’t remember what he did.

Drag suddenly pointed directly at the man. “It’s him, if you were in the medical bay, then you would know why,” Drag announced. The others also pointed at him. “Wait... what do you guys-” suddenly a massive box fell from the sky.

“Please enter the box, TOM” a voice said from a speaker. The guy’s handcuffs suddenly unclipped and he stepped into the box. There was a window so we could see him. CLICK! He tugged on the door, it refused to budge.

Suddenly it began raining in the box. The man yelled in pain as the liquid hit him; it began melting his clothes! We watched for several gruesome minutes as he turned to goop. “Player eliminated, fourteen left”.
