This Moonlit Night

This Moonlit Night

A Poem by Henry Martinez

The moon is almost full,

we were almost there.
The night was almost dark,
we were almost there.

We picked a bench to sit,
the light illuminated your face.
I saw perfect beauty,
the excitement illuminating in our eyes.

I wish from the the bottom of my heart,
that we could have another night.
I wish I could kiss your cheek lightly,
so I could feel that peace again.

It doesn't matter what we didn't do,
how our lips ever so close never touched,
it doesn't matter we didn't give into our feelings,
but this moonlit night
        it was ours.
