Phoenix

Phoenix

A Poem by Henry Martinez
"

Even more lyrics for another song.

"
like a phoenix rising
from the dust in the wind
it can't be flown away
because in death there's new life-

the phoenix was plucked of its feathers
tortured and battered up
it could barely lift a wing

when I had the feathers on the floor,
each one of them shone
dancing in the bloodied room,
I realized what I had done wrong-

I was amazed that love could exist
like a phoenix rising
from the dust in the wind
it can't be flown away
because in death there's new life-

Should the phoenix have risen sooner,
Love would've been lost
she would've flown away
but I gripped hard, my faith wouldn't sway
