Contemplating the Lit Candle

The candle sheds its tears of wax,
As its life slowly melts away.
Moment by moment it passes
Closer into nothingness.


I lament its wretched fate,
And relate to its condition.
As it lends its fragrance and light to the world,
What is it that I have accomplished?
