Remember the evening breeze?
How it carried the scent of lilacs
across graduation gowns
and front lawns?

The sunset lit up the world
with change and possibilities,
and the grass was freshly mowed
so that the scent of summer
finally reached the front lines.

Choosing, in that moment,
to strip lives of independence
and re-braid the strands
of security and love
until one life started
before the other began.

Sunbeams watched
as choices were made
and that one simple word
was said, though only
after the giggles had passed
and the ring was actually
out of the box...

... it was perfect.
