Promises

Promises

A Poem by Rebecca

When my love, you’re lonely, I’ll be your friend. We’ll laugh at silly, trivial things, And then speak of other-worldy designs.

When, my love, you’re sad, I’ll be there to dry your tears. Wrap my arms around your aches and pains, ans love them until they evaporate.

When, my love, you’re angry, I’ll be there to listen close. Open my heart and learn the views from your eyes, and through compromise discover a solution.

When, my love, you are broken, beaten, bruised, depressed, hurt, and as if your whole world has burnt to the ground and is gone forever so you must be gone too-

I will fix your broken state; I’ll treat and heal your bruised, beaten flesh; I’ll recover you from your depressed mind; I’ll love you until you hurt no more.

And I’ll help you see that although the world may be gone, you are not. When you’re laying on the ground wishing to be gone, I’ll pick you up and carry you for miles while you drink up the strength I give you. I’ll help you see just how much you’re worth and how much you can be. I’ll be what you can’t be in your time of need, and help you rise from your self-induced grave. You will see in a different way. You will be healed and given a sip of life energy to make you whole again. Together, from the ashes of the world you had thought was obliterated, we’ll rebuild and remake it and create from it something of our own.
